Abstract: Dwelling remains in Jomon settlement sites often occur in two clusters. In such settlements, it has also been observed that burials occur in two different forms (extended vs flexed, or two different modes of body orientation) and that ceramic vessels are manufactured using two different techniques. It is therefore argued that Jomon communities were probably composed of two constituent parts.
