Abstract: This chapter offers a range of post-1500 CE archaeology in East and Southeast Asia based on published research conducted in the last fifteen years. Three primary research themes are identified: the archaeology of port cities, the archaeology of colonial settler communities, and the archaeology of indigenous communities. Most of these scholarships are unknown to the larger global scholarship due to language boundaries. These studies show that historical archaeology in this region can help local communities to develop post-colonial identities by connecting deep history and recent history. Moreover, the case studies from this region enrich the field of historical archaeology from a global perspective.
