Abstract: This paper examines the characteristics of agricultural practice during the Yayoi period (300 BC - AD 250) in Japan. The paper demonstrates the discontinuity between Jomon plant cultivation and Yayoi agricultural practice, and discusses the historical significance of the beginning of Yayoi agriculture.
