A newly discovered coin of ancient Cambodia, issued by king Īśanavarman(Ishanavarman) I, c. AD 611635, reveals many insights into the history of ancient Cambodia and its international connections. The coin copies its designs from a gold coin originating from the kingdom of Samatata in south eastern Bangladesh, issued by a contemporary king Śaśānka, c. AD 590637. The new coin shows the Khmer king to be a worshipper of the Indian god Śiva, sharing his religious beliefs with kings across northern India. The new coin also contributes to the debate on the chronology of the introduction of coinage in South East Asia. Une monnaie de l'ancien Cambodge, récemment découverte, émise par le roi Īśanavarman (Ishanavarman) Ier, c. 611-635, révèle de nombreux aspects de l'histoire de l'ancien Cambodge et de ses rapports internationaux. La monnaie tire son modèle d'une monnaie d'or originaire du royaume de Samatata, au Sud-est du Bangladesh, émise par un roi contemporain, Śaśānka, c. 590-637. Cette nouvelle monnaie montre que le roi khmer était un fidèle du dieu indien Śiva, partageant les mêmes croyances religieuses que les rois du Nord de l'Inde.
