Abstract: This paper presents accounts of important activities on geology and mineral resources development of northeastern Thailand since the prehistoric time. The region, although occupying an area of about one-third of the country, is less known for the geology and mineral resources until after the World War II, when western nations turned their eyes to the importance of Southeast Asia. Through foreign aids, both financial and technical, progress can be made to know more about the stratigraphy and economic geology, which would be essential for the economic development of northeastern Thailand. The studies of various mineral occurrences, from metal to petroleum, are described in chronological order.
