Abstract: This essay has to do with the problem of dating statues. Can the study of the treatment of corporal forms provide us with a greater chronological precision? To try to answer this question, I will take as an example the feminine deity of Phnom Bakhèng from the Musée Guimet collection (n°14879). Our approach would seem to be complementary to that established by Jean Boisselier, which is based on the fine study of the characteristics of costume, coiffure and accessories. Corporal treatment takes three parameters into account: a precise anatomical study
the study of the techniques of materials employed and finally the formal aspects of the image (treatment of surface, line, form, plasticity and organisation of volumes).
