Legacy

Although the Affair officially ended with Dreyfus’s exoneration and military reinstatement in 1906, its effects reverberated for decades, and can even be felt today. The aftermath of the Affair influenced French politics and culture, Zionism, and even gave birth to the Tour de France. The Affair continues to intrigue scholars and novelists alike. In the past five years, a number of English-language books have been published which reexamine the place of the Dreyfus Affair in the wider culture.
