[2], 264 (i.e. 262), [2] p., [1] leaf of plates : Ill. (frontispiece) 17 cm. (12mo) Duodecimo By Sarah Robinson Scott and Lady Barbara Montagu; sometimes attributed to Oliver Goldsmith and to Christopher Smart. cf. Crittenden, W.M. Life and work of Mrs. Sarah Scott, p. 98; Williams, I.A. Seven XVIIIth century bibliographies, p. 127; Halkett & Laing. A novel. Publisher's advertisements: p. [1]-[2] at end. Ink residue from the final printed leaf (verso) of this book, which contains advertisements, on the third printed leaf (recto). This is apparent because certain faint words on that third leaf match words in this final advertisement, such as "Circero" and "ceremonies". Trapezoidal-shaped paper pasted under the paper that covers the front board, indicating that this book has been restored and reinforced. Margins are narrower in the second edition than in the third. Book does not have a consistent running title: instead, the heading of each chapter serves as the running title. Paper insert found between page 84 and 85, with the book title, author, and the name, "Dr. Mendenhall". Library marginalia appears on the verso of the last leaf of the novel. Sticker on spine, transcription: "477/3". Marginalia on the inside of front board indicates the book was sold for 15 shillings. ESTC (RLIN) T70076 Raven, J.
