Abstract: |
In the article, the author investigates the evolution from Yuhuchun vases of Vietnam - initially influenced by Chinese Yuhuchun vases of the Yuan and Ming dynasties - to p'i-p'a lute-shaped vases in Hai Duong. The author states that Vietnamese Yuhuchun vases tend to be higher and higher in the largest parts of the vases' bodies. The author presents two indices C1 and C2 to investigate this characteristics. According to the author, it is possible to classify Vietnamese Yuhuchun vases into 3 groups: 1) Group I with the largest part of the body is low with decoration by iron glaze, probably dating from the 14th century. 2) Group II are those of blue-white vases with higher body where the largest part is, probably from the first half of the 15th century. 3) Group III are p'i-p'a lute-shaped vases or vases with figure of magpie-robin, from the second half of the 15th century and 16th century.
