Title: Recent archaeological discoveries in peninsular Malaysia (1976-1982)
Date: 1983
Source: Journal of the Malaysian Branch of the Royal Asiatic Society
Abstract: Short notes on archaeological discoveries in Malaya have been part of this journal since the early 1950s until 1968 and have proved to have been a useful means of acknowledging and recording new archaeological finds, either found by chance or through excavations, while waiting for a final report. It has been almost fifteen years since this series ceased to appear in this journal although a large number of items of archaeological interest have come to light within this period. A few reports on these finds have been made elsewhere (Theseira 1976, Leong, 1977, Batchelor 1978 and Bellwood and Adi 1980). The present note covers archaeological discoveries from 1976 until the present, that is from the time when the writer joined the Museums Department. To facilitate the presentation of this report, the writer will follow the format used by previous authors, and the discoveries are here listed in their sequence of acquisition and research and according to their geographical distribution. In this report only a summary of certain aspect of these discoveries is attempted, and reports on various excavation will be dealt with at greater length in a separate article.
